Promoting Social Cohesion Among Youth in Kalutara District As part of a year-long initiative aimed at fostering peace and understanding, a targeted project was implemented across three Divisional Secretariat Divisions — Horana, Ingiriya, and Dodangoda — within the Kalutara District. The project focused on strengthening social cohesion at the grassroots level, especially among youth. In collaboration with government officials at the divisional level, young individuals were identified and actively engaged in the project’s activities. These youth participants were not only representatives of their communities but also served as catalysts for change. One of the key aspects of the project was the identification of social issues specific to each division. Through participatory methods and inclusive dialogue, divisional-level concerns were mapped and prioritized. Following this, context-sensitive interventions were designed and implemented to address the identified issues effectively. By involving local youth in both the diagnostic and solution-building processes, the project ensured relevance, ownership, and long-term impact. The initiative served as a platform for empowering young people, enhancing mutual understanding, and building resilient, socially cohesive communities. This project marks an important step forward in our ongoing efforts to build peace and inclusive engagement across Sri Lanka.
